What Then?

When all the great plants of our cities
Have turned out their last finished work,
When the merchants have made the last bargain
And dismissed the last tired clerk,
When our banks have raked in their last dollar,
And paid out the last dividend,
When the Judge Of The Earth says
"Close For The Night,"
And asks for the balance---WHAT THEN?

When the actor has played his last drama,
And the mimic has made his last fun,
When the movies have made their last picture,
And the Billboard displayed its Last Run,
When the crowd seeking pleasure has vanished
And gone into darkness again,
When the world that Rejected Its Saviour
Is asked for a reason---WHAT THEN?

The Bible is God's Message to Mankind

As we make our "voyage across life's sea," the Bible is God's chart to guide us through life, and safely on from earth to heaven.

-About 40 writers wrote the Bible. Although they were from different backgrounds, and wrote over a 1600 year period, yet there is perfect harmony of the writers. That would have been impossible, unless God directed it.

Things the Bible mentions that men "discovered" long after

-Job 26:7 says God "hangeth the earth upon nothing." Centuries later scientists still argued about what the earth rested on.

-Isaiah 40:22 speaks of the "circle of the earth," when all men thought it was flat. Isaiah wrote 2,200 years before Magellan proved it is round.

-Arthur Fontaine Maury, the "Pathfinder of the seas," was reading the Bible and noticed Psalm 8:8 spoke of "..the paths of the seas." This led to his search for those "paths". He made an intense study of the winds and ocean currents, and charted those currents now used for Shipping Lanes.

Salvation and Eternal Life Offered To All People

  • God wants ALL people to be saved. --"This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth."--1 Timothy 2:3,4--"The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise,as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance."--2 Peter 3:9
  • Christ was sacrificed for ALL men. --"He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world."--1 John 2:2--"But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ."--Ephesians 2:13
  • Christ commanded the gospel to be preached to "every creature". --"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."--Matthew 28:19,20--"He said to them, 'Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.'"--Mark 16:15--"...and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem."--Luke 24:47
  • God anxiously awaits EVERY person's salvation. --"In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."--Luke 15:10
  • Each must willingly believe and obey. --"Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed-not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence-continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling."--Philippians 2:12 --"..and, once made perfect, He became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey Him..."--Hebrews 5:9
  • No one should neglect, reject or delay. --"There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; that very word which I spoke will condemn him at the last day."--John 12:48--"...how shall we escape if we ignore such a great salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard Him."--Hebrews 2:3--

What Must Man Do?

1. HEAR THE GOSPEL ---"Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the Word of Christ."---Romans 10:17---"I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes..."---Romans 1:16---

2. BELIEVE ON JESUS CHRIST ---"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall have eternal life."---John 3:16---"Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son."---John 3:18---

3. REPENT, Make a decision to turn from all that is wrong and follow Christ. ---"...and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem."---Luke 24:47---"Peter replied, 'Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.'"---Acts 2:38---

4. CONFESS CHRIST as the Son of God. ---"Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven." ---Matthew 10:32,33---"For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved."---Romans 10:10---

5. BE BAPTIZED in water, for forgiveness. ---"He said to them, 'Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.'"---Mark 16:15,16---"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."---Matthew 28:19,20---"Peter replied, 'Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."---Acts 2:38---"Or don't you know that all of us that were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life."---Romans 6:3,4---
